SUMMARY:Creating Your Own Land Acknowledgement Statement
DESCRIPTION:Every Canadian has the privilege of living on land that once was the Traditional Territory of the Indigenous People who lived there before contact. Who are they? How did the land on which you live come to you? When and why did your ancestors come to Canada? What is the history of your people? What relationship\, if any did your family have with the Indigenous People of your land? The answers to all of these questions will help you to realize how you got to where you are now\, and will enable you to create your own authentic Land Acknowledgement Statement. \nPresenter Profile: Elder Aimee Bailey is a citizen of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and lives in their unceded Traditional Territory. She has an honours degree in the Humanities from York University and a post-graduate certificate as an Indigenous Traditional Practitioner from First Nations Technical Institute. Her decades of experience in restoring her Traditional Culture have had her establish The Algonquin Way Cultural Centre at Pikwakanagan and The Circle of Turtle Lodge at Golden Lake. \nThis lunch n’ learn is hosted in partnership with Lanark County Children and Youth Services Collaboration and Every Kid In Our Communities of Leeds and Grenville. \nThis event is open to all. Please register here.
