SUMMARY:Introduction to Peaceful Conflict Resolution and Mediation
DESCRIPTION:What does peaceful conflict resolution mean and what does it mean to be a ‘peace professional’? \nJoin us for an evening of conversation\, learning\, and reflection as we explore peaceful conflict resolution and mediation—a discussion on the role and relevance of those who actively uphold the values of peace in professional settings\, day-to-day life\, and society. \nThis Culture Connect event will explore: \n\nThe culture of peace as a set of shared values and principles.\nWhat defines a peace professional.\nHow to apply these values to real-life situations in a thoughtful way.\nA guided reflection on current global peace issues.\n\nResources and information sheets will be provided by session facilitator\, Theresa Dunn and light snacks will be available for all attendees. This event is open to all interested in learning about peace as a profession and how you can practice peaceful conflict resolution in your personal and professional life. \nRegister HERE \nAbout the presenter: \nTheresa Dunn’s professional practice has spanned diverse geographical and cultural sectors.  She has worked nationally and internationally with families\, community groups and organizations providing strategies for peaceful-co-existence.  Through assessment\, coaching\, workshops\, presentations\, mediations and large group facilitations she has provided compassionate processes towards change. \nTheresa’s work is based on the principles and practices of a Culture of Peace and Conflict Transformation. Her focus of learning has been to understand how to live the changes such as compassionate communication\, principled negotiation\, healthy boundaries\, value based leadership and more. For a deeper explanation on these concepts and practices please see my website tdunnconsulting.ca \nTestimonial: Her extensive experience working with individuals\, communities\, organizations\, faith groups\, and international organizations has allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the complexities of conflict from power struggles to trauma responses and how to effectively navigate it. Theresa’s vast experience informs her work as a seasoned peace professional in assessment\, process design\, facilitation and evaluation. She has been providing training for the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation (CIIAN) for nearly three decades\, bringing a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to her training sessions. Her MA in Community Psychology and certifications as a mediator\, peacebuilder\, and executive coach\, further enhance her training expertise.

SUMMARY:Celebrating Solstice Together - Mississippi Mills
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day\, Mississippi Mills All My Relations is again holding a Solstice community event in the spirit of the late\, highly celebrated\, Algonquin Elder William Commanda\, whose life’s work embraced the belief in a circle of all nations and culture of peace. \nGrandfather William was Chief of the Kitigan Zibi Algonquin Anishinabeg Reserve for 20 years and served as a globally renowned spiritual leader for the remainder of his 97 years. He received many accolades from both the Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. He was appointed as carrier of three sacred wampum belts of historical significance (The 1800’s Sharing Belt\, the Jay Treaty Border Crossing Belt\, and the Seven Fires Prophecy Belt)\, and was considered by many to be the “Grand Chief of North America. He was also honoured with the 12th Key to the city of Ottawa\, was given two honorary doctorate degrees\, appointed the Order of Canada\, and received a Lifetime Achievement award from the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards. \nWhat’s Happening: \n8:30 AM – Noon |  Levi Community Centre – Start your day with a pancake breakfast hosted by Ginawaydaganuc Village. In the spirit of the Algonquin teaching that “all things are connected\,” this gathering offers food and community connection.  This event is by donation. \nDuring this time beginning at 10 a.m. Danka Brewer\, a respected Algonquin knowledge keeper from the Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation\, will generously share stories and teachings suitable for parents and children.  With years of experience in cultural education\, she brings warmth\, wisdom\, and a deep care for the well-being of future generations. \n4PM – 8PM | Riverfront Park – Visit the Seven Gifts installation for an afternoon of stories\, music\, dancing\, crafts\, and culture. Highlights include: \n\nIndigenous storytelling\nOpportunities for discussion & reflection\nLive music\nJingle dance performance\nCultural displays and artisan crafts\nA community barbecue (please note: this is a paid meal)\n\nWe’ll close the evening by watching the sunset together in the spirit of peace\, reflection\, and shared intention.
