By using the website (Liplanarkrenfrew.ca) and services (the “website”), you signify that you have read, understand, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our privacy policy, found at https://www.algonquincollege.com/policies/privacy/, incorporated herein by reference and that you are the legal age of majority under applicable law.  If you do not agree to these terms or meet this requirement you must not access or use the website.

 

Who we Are: Liplanarkrenfrew.ca is an informational website administered by the Pembroke Campus of Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology (“LIP-Lanark & Renfrew”, “us”, “our”) and funded by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada that supports communities in bringing together services providers, settlement agencies, community groups, employers, and other key municipal organizations (“Partner Organizations”) to support newcomers to the community (“Program Users”). Partner Organizations and Program Users are independent of us. Each Partner Organization is responsible for selecting and screening its members and volunteers (collectively “volunteers”).

 

Third-Party Websites: Liplanarkrenfrew.ca and information available through Liplanarkrenfrew.ca may contain features and functionalities that may link or provide access to independent third parties, such as various Partner Organizations.  These links do not imply our endorsement or sponsorship of such third parties.

 

Disclaimer of Liability: You agree that there is no confidential or any other special relationship that is or should be formed by use of the website or information contained on the website. LIP-Lanark & Renfrew expressly denies liability and undertakes no responsibility for the conduct of Partner Organizations or individuals working with Partner Organizations that are listed on the website. While we are not obligated to do so, we reserve the right to screen or conduct background checks on any individuals or Partner Organizations registered with the website.

 

Except where such exclusions are prohibited by law, under no circumstance will LIP-Lanark & Renfrew nor its partners, subsidiaries, affiliates or their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, service providers, contractors, licensors, licensees, suppliers, or successors, including Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (the “Protected Parties”), be liable for negligence, gross negligence, negligent misrepresentation, fundamental breach, damages of any kind, under any legal theory, including any direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including, but not limited to, personal injury, pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of revenue, loss of profits, loss of business or anticipated savings, loss of use, loss of goodwill, loss of data, and whether caused by tort (including negligence), breach of contract, breach of privacy, or otherwise, even if the party was allegedly advised or had reason to know, arising out of or in connection with your use or reliance on, the website, any linked websites, any website content, materials, posting, or any related services or facilitations initiated through the websites.

 

You agree that you bear all risks associated with the use of any information or services on the website and any interactions with Partner Organizations found through the website, including but not limited to, joining Partner Organizations, visiting facilities of any Partner Organization, and meeting with individuals representing such Partner Organizations.

 

In the event anyone is harmed in any way by any Partner Organization or individual associated with any Partner Organization, you hereby release LIP-Lanark & Renfrew and the Protected Parties from claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind or nature, known or unknown, suspected, and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way related to such harm, disputes or our services.

 

Intellectual Rights: The website and its entire contents are owned by LIP-Lanark & Renfrew and are protected by intellectual property laws. Our name, and all related names and logos, designs, images, and slogans are trademarks of LIP-Lanark & Renfrew and the names, logos, designs, images and slogans of Partner Organizations that appear on the website are the trademarks of their respective owners. You must not use such marks without the prior written permission of the owner of such marks. Failing to obtain express authorization is an infringement or violation of the rights of the property owner could subject the infringer to legal action.

 

Users are not permitted to modify copies of any materials from this website nor delete or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary rights notices from copies of materials from this website.

 

Website Content: We reserve the right to remove any information posted on the website at any time, at our sole discretion. Mentoring Program: The Mentoring Program is supported by individuals and organizations volunteering their time (“mentors”) to assists program participants (“mentees”).  Mentees are responsible for evaluating and investigating whether a mentor is safe and appropriate for them or any minor under their care before proceeding with any interactions or participation with such mentor.

 

Mentors and mentees are responsible for the truth and accuracy of any information they submit to the website and for the timely updating of any changes to their information.

 

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to reject or approve any application of any Volunteer or Program User for inclusion in our directory, for any or no reason. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, sexual orientation, sex, or national origin.

 

By registering as a mentor, you certify that:

  • you have a legitimate interest in providing guidance, support, and encouragement aimed at developing the competence of the mentees;
  • you will not promote any illegal activity, or advocate, promote, or assist any unlawful act;
  • you have not committed any  including a crime against a minor, including child abuse, sexual acts, and pornography;
  • it is your sole responsibility to take reasonable precautions in all interactions with Program Users;
  • you will act in the furtherance of the objectives of the Mentoring Program to which you are applying, and you will not partake in any activities that are of detriment to the organization, the community it serves, or to its objectives; and
  • you will represent your identity, skills, and background accurately in your application.

By registering as a mentee, you certify that:

  • you have a legitimate interest in seeking guidance, support, and encouragement to help develop your competences;
  • you will not promote any illegal activity, or advocate, promote, or assist any unlawful act;
  • it is your sole responsibility to take reasonable precautions in all interactions with mentors;
  • you will act in the furtherance of the objectives of the Mentoring Program to which you are applying, and you will not partake in any activities that are of detriment to the organization, the community it serves, or to its objectives; and
  • you will represent your identity, skills, and background accurately in your application.

 

General Information: We reserve the right in our sole discretion to revise and update these Terms of Use from time to time. All such modifications are effective immediately upon posting and apply to all access to and continued use of the website. You agree to periodically review the Terms of Use to be aware of any such modifications and your continued use shall be your acceptance of these. We will not be liable if, for any reason, all or any part of the website is restricted to users or unavailable at any time or for any period. The website and these Terms of Use will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provisions. Any action or proceeding arising out of or relating to this Website and under these Terms of Use will be instituted in the courts of the Province of Ontario and/or the Federal Court of Canada, and each party irrevocably submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of such courts in any such action or proceeding.
