In the 1960s, India was still young in its freedom. Many social reforms were taking place, however, some social evils still existed within society such as the caste system, sati, dowry, child marriage, honor killing, and no or limited education for girls. This is the world I grew up in. It was a challenging time for any girl, like me, who was an independent thinker and aspired to be ahead of her time.
