Teslin was one of the first Yukon First Nations to sign a modern treaty on Feb. 14, 1993. Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the signing of our treaty.

The Ottawa River reminds me of Teslin Lake, the old mountains across the river remind me of the mountains back home (they’re smaller, but still mountains). And the small cedar trees here remind me of Alaska, where most Tlingits live. The Tlingit Nation have been in what’s now known as Alaska, British Columbia, and the Yukon for countless generations.
