This special event, held on September 13th at the Petawawa Civic Centre in the Arena Area, celebrates the spirit of unity, diversity, and the strong bond that exists between Canada and its citizens. With the heartwarming theme, “We’re Glad You’re Here,” we aim to honour and reaffirm the commitment of individuals who have chosen to become Canadian citizens and contribute to the rich tapestry of our nation. This event is in partnership with the Petawawa Public Library and the Town of Petawawa.
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Event Highlights
- Opening Ceremony: The ceremony will begin with a heartfelt welcome address from event emcee Warden Peter Emon. Dignitaries, community leaders, and special guests will express their gratitude for the contributions of all citizens.
- Cultural Showcase: Canada’s diversity will shine through an engaging cultural showcase featuring a dance performance by Suli Adams and “Immigrant Minutes” video showcase.
- Citizenship Reaffirmation Pledge: Attendees will have the opportunity to re-affirm their oath of citizenship using the updated language adopted by the Canadian Government in line with the Truth & Reconciliation Committee’s calls to action, which recognizes and affirms the Aboriginal and treaty rights of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
