Home & Community Mailboxes

Even thought we live in a highly technological and fast-paced world, everyone is still using the mail; sometimes referred to as “snail mail”. Having a mailbox is important as some documents and items like government cheques are still sent through the mail. Mail is usually delivered to your door, a community mailbox, a post office box (P.O. Box) or a group mailbox.

Community mailboxes are often located close to your home and also require a key to access. If you weren’t provided with a mail key when you moved in, you can request one from your landlord, or request one through Canada Post’s website: How to Get New Community Mailbox Keys.

If you’re shopping online, some retailers may allow you to send packages directly to a Canada Post Office for pick-up. This can be especially handy if you’re not going to be home during the delivery time of an important item. Other shipping companies like UPS, Purolator, and FedEx offer a similar service for their offices.

P.O. Boxes

P.O. Boxes can be rented at the post office, and come in different sizes. You will require a key to access the room containing all the boxes, and a key to the box itself. In order to rent a P.O. box, you will need a piece of a valid government-issued photo ID and payment for the rental and key deposit. You can find more information and prices here: P.O. Boxes: Information and Prices

Sending Letters and Packages

Canada Post has different prices for sending items depending on the size and category. If you are sending a letter, it will most likely require one or more stamps. You can also purchase pre-stamped envelopes and other mailing packaging from the post office. They also have an option to register the mail so that you can receive confirmation that it has safely arrived at your recipient. You can find more information on Canada Post’s rates here: Sending Letters and Packages

Other options exist for sending parcels within Canada and abroad like UPS, Purolator, and FedEx.
