I am a Canadian citizen but, like my parents, was born a British subject in Kenya. My grandparents spent their honeymoon on a ship travelling from India to Kenya. My grandparents were just teenagers and met only days before they married and left their families for a country that was unfamiliar, where they knew no one, and where they could not speak with the Africans or the British. Their vision was to make a better future for themselves and generations to come.
