The differences between us are much smaller than our commonalities, regardless of our origins.
This is the message shared by Yasir Naqvi during a presentation on “How Rural Communities Can Address Racism to Create More Welcoming Spaces for Newcomers.”
“If you get to know our story, you will find that we have far more in common than divides us,” said Naqvi.
Excepting Indigenous people, everyone in Canada is an immigrant or is descended from immigrants. The details of their stories may differ, but ultimately, they all came to this country for a better life. This is as true now as it was 400 years ago.
