Several organizations in the community offer opportunities for individuals to upgrade their skills and continue their learning journey.
Learning new skills can open the door to employment opportunities, support career advancement, and help individuals adapt to a changing workplace. It can also provide opportunities to meet new people, become more engaged in the community, and develop a stronger sense of belonging. For newcomers, participating in educational and training programs can support settlement, improve language and communication skills, and contribute to a successful immigration journey.
French Language Instruction
There are a variety of French courses that you can take within your community or online. If you are interested in learning or improving your English skills, consult our Local ESL Services page.

Éducation permanente offers credit and non-credit courses for adult learners. Credit courses are open to Ontario residents. Prospective students can register for virtual evening classes and earn a 0.5 credit.
Non-credit courses are available to eligible individuals born outside Canada. Before registering for classes, learners must complete a language assessment through the YMCA.

Mango Languages is similar to apps like Duolingo. It provides an easy, fun, and effective way to learn how to speak another language. Those registered with Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Smiths Falls, Arnprior, and Pembroke libraries can access the portal for free. Libraries are a valuable resource for connecting with your community and accessing lifelong learning opportunities.
