Community relationships enhance connections among the people involved, transforming language learning into a vehicle for integration.

With funding from The Canadian Red Cross, Algonquin College and English as a Second Language (ESL) experts have created a new language-learning delivery model called the Community Language Support Program.

The program is a decentralized, place-based approach to language learning where community members teach English in ways that directly support the individual learner. It is done in the places and spaces they choose to live in and according to their schedule and preference for learning.

A Guide for Volunteers Teaching English as a Second Language: Language as a vehicle to integration is a step-by-step guide for those willing to help with ESL support.

There are also a number of resources for learning English either digitally or within our community. Explore the list of resources on our Local ESL Services page.
